No Heat: Heat Pump

Insufficient Heat: Heat Pump (Heat pump is running but air is not warm)
- Your air filter might be clogged. Check and replace air filter. If the issue persists, call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service. To prevent future issues, schedule a preventive maintenance appointment.
- Unit is covered in ice. Remove ice from unit. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service or preventive maintenance appointment.
- Check thermostat. If thermostat is set properly (make sure it is set to “Heat”) and the heat does not come on if you increase the temperature setting, you may have a thermostat malfunction. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule a formal diagnosis and repair.
- Check room registers to ensure that they are open.
No Air: Central Air
- Check service panel for a tripped breaker or blown fuse.
- Check thermostat to make sure it is set to “Cool.” Set thermostat to below current temperature to turn unit on. If no results, call (215) 935-4614 to schedule a service appointment.
- Check for power by moving the fan switch from “Auto” to “On.” If the blower runs, there is power. If nothing happens, a control is burned out or power is disconnected. If the system uses a furnace for heat, check that the emergency switch is on. If you are familiar with the service panel, check for blown fuses or tripped breakers. Correct the problem one time only. If it repeats, call for service.
- If the unit is in the attic, there could be a float switch in the air handler or in the safety pan that will shut the condenser off if the drain is clogged. Water around the unit is evidence of trouble. Call for service.
Inadequate Cooling: Central Air
(System is running, but air is not cooling the house.)
- If your system squeals upon start up or rattles while running, check for loose exterior fittings and then call (215) 935-4614 to schedule a service appointment.
No Heat: Gas Furnace
- Thermostat may be set too low. Make sure thermostat is in “Heat” mode. Increase temperature to see if unit comes on. If not, thermostat may be broken. Call IT Landes to schedule a furnace repair appointment.
- Circuit breaker or fuse may be tripped or blown. Check and reset.
- Natural gas or propane control valve is closed.
- Pilot light is out. Relight pilot light.
Not Enough Heat: Gas Furnace
- Check air filter. If dirty, replace. Call IT Landes to schedule a preventive maintenance appointment to avoid future problems.
- Burners may be dirty or need adjustment. Call IT Landes to schedule a service technician appointment.
No Heat: Boiler
- Check the service panel to see if a fuse is tripped or blown. Reset or replace as necessary.
- Natural gas or propane control valve to boiler burner is closed.
- Pilot light is out. Relight standing pilot.
- Check that thermostat is in “Heat” mode and has an appropriate temperature setting. If increasing the temperature does not initiate the unit to start, call (215) 935-4614 to schedule an emergency no-heat appointment.
No Hot Water: Water Heater
- Your hot water tank may not be large enough for your home. If you consistently run out of hot water quickly, this is likely the issue. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule a formal diagnosis and replacement.
- Water heaters run on their own electrical circuit. Check your service panel to ensure that none of the breakers are tripped. If a breaker has been tripped, flip it to the “Off” position then to the “On” position to reset. If the problem persists, call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service.
- Check the water heater’s high temperature cut-off switch. Make sure that it has not been tripped.
- Make sure that there is no water around your water heater. This could be a sign of leakage. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service and replacement if you notice water.
- If you have a gas water heater, your gas supply may be interrupted. Set the gas control knob to “Pilot.” Remove the cover of the pilot light and check to see if there is a flame inside. If there is not, relight the pilot light using a long lighter.
- If you have a gas water heater, your burner may not be working. Make sure that the burner is off and then set the thermostat to 120 degrees. Begin running hot water somewhere in your home. If the burner ignites after the water runs for a few minutes, simply replace the cover and reset your thermostat. If it will not ignite, keep the hot water running and continue to turn the thermostat up. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service if you cannot get the burner to ignite.
No Water Pressure: Water Shut-Off Valves/Pressure Reducing Valve/Water Heater
- If water pressure is lowered only when hot water is running, the issue is your hot water heater. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule a formal diagnosis.
- If you only experience low water pressure in one faucet, remove the end of the faucet. Clean the aerator which is located at the tip of the faucet in water and vinegar if there is any substance clogging it. Turn the water on without replacing the aerator. If water pressure still is not normal, the faucet itself is not the problem. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service.
- Adjust the pressure reducing valve (PRV), which is found on the water line. To increase water pressure, turn the PRV screw clockwise; to decrease water pressure, turn it counterclockwise.
- Check the water shut-off valve, located at the water meter. Even a tiny adjustment could be affecting water pressure in your home.
- If adjusting the PRV and the water shut-off valve do not increase your water pressure, you could have a water leak. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service.
Sluggish Drain: Drain/Piping/Main Drain Line
- The drain could be clogged. Mix a ½ cup of vinegar with a ½ cup of baking soda and pour the mixture down the drain. Cover the drain and let the mixture sit for 30 minutes before plunging the drain with a mini-plunger. Finally, use a metal hanger or drain snake to pull out whatever hair or other substances are clogging the drain, then flush the drain with boiling water.
- If a sink is still draining slowly, check the pipe below the sink. The blockage could be there.
- If your drain and pipes are clear but your drain is still sluggish, your pipes may be aging or there could be a problem with the main drain line itself. Call (215) 935-4614 to schedule service.
